THE HORROR

OF HAMMER

Beginning with 1955's The Creeping Unknown (a.k.a. The Quatermass Xperiment, 1955) and continuing on until To the Devil a Daughter in 1976, England's Hammer Studios redefined horror cinema, pulling in unprecedented international audiences for English films and pioneering how sex and blood would be shown onscreen. They made stars of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, they reintroduced the classic monsters and vampires to a new generation, and they set new standards for excellence in a low-budget field once dominated by cheap schlock.

This exclusive DVD presentation, produced in collaboration with Hammer historian Ted Newsom--producer of the excellent Hammer documentary Flesh and Blood--collects over one and a half hours of original coming attractions previews of Hammer's legendary thrillers, mastered from original film elements from Newsom's personal collection.

Additionally, this disc features a running audio commentary by noted film scholars and genre aficionados discussing the legacy of the Studio That Dripped Blood. This exclusive DVD presentation also features several bonuses, including two very rare original behind-the-scenes promotional shorts, promoting When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth and Dracula AD 1972.
